Job title: Software Engineer

1. Job Background

Job Purpose/Mission of Role	To design, develop, test and implement software solutions that result in, high quality and easy to use applications and software products.
Reports to	Applications Unit Manager / Head of IT & Engineering
Number of Direct Reports	None
Essential Qualifications and Work Experience	A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or an equivalent amount of technical coursework and work experience in a related field. A minimum of 3 years of working experience in the related field. Ability to develop using Java and the Spring Framework. Ability to develop RESTful APIs.

Write custom applications	Use of productivity frameworks. Developing and integrating applications using RESTful and other APIs. Working with Source Control Management software. Meet software development deadlines and project goals. Ensure all software applications comply to organisational quality standards. Ensure all code follows internal coding standards. Document all applications’ design, purpose and usage.	35%
Analysis and design	Application analysis and design. Ensure that software applications follow the internal architecture standards. Ensure web applications follow industry best practices.	25%
Test and troubleshoot	Design and conducts tests. Troubleshoot development and production problems. Support users by developing documentation and assistance tools.	30%
General Responsibilities	Ensure that relevant processes are clearly documented as per ISO 9001 standards. Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Head of IT & Engineering and the Applications Unit Manager.	10%

4. Competencies


Technical	Effective use of Integrated Development Environments (IDE). Effective use of Source Control Management systems. Conversant with using Java and productivity frameworks. Familiarity with object-oriented programming. Conversant with test-driven development. Conversant with RESTful APIs. Familiarity with Linux/Unix command-line interfaces. Ability to setup a LAMP stack. Knowledge in Scrum Methodology Familiarity with code review practises. Knowledge of additional languages (for example Perl, Python or others) a plus.
