The Internet has revolutionised, amongst others, the way we communicate, access information, and do business. As a result, organisations of all types and sizes  heavily relies on it to connect with their customers and partners. Devices and networks conneting to the Internet are identified using IP addresses and Autonomous System Numbers.

AFRINIC is committed to developing Africa’s Internet and unlocking the region’s full potential in ICT. This is achieved through collaboration with stakeholders to improve connectivity and promote the use of Internet technologies. We have an array of Internet development programs aimed at promoting investment in Internet development in Africa.

Celebrating 18 years of AFRINIC: Connecting Africa from idea to reality. The Internet heavily relies on unique number identifiers like Internet Protocol (IP) address space (IPv4 and IPv6) and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) to connect networks and devices. In the early 1990s, assigning IP addresses was managed by a single individual named Jon Postel of late memory, who maintained a list of assigned network addresses using a paper notebook.

Achievements of AFRINIC in 2022:A Year of Resilience and Growth Looking back at 2022, AFRINIC has a lot to be proud of. Despite numerous hurdles, the team stayed dedicated to our goal of supporting the African Internet community by providing effective services in a global multi-stakeholder environment. We persevered with resilience and hope, and the following are some of AFRINIC's significant achievements and activities.

This is to alert AFRINIC Resource Members of a misleading email communication from purported representatives of a fictitious organization; targeted at AFRINIC  Resource Members (“members”), soliciting them to sign a power of attorney form and surrender their MyAFRINIC portal credentials with them for the purpose of casting a vote for Board Member’s seat. Here is an example of such an email.

AFRINIC has been a beacon of support for network operators in Africa, offering expert guidance and assistance through its deployment initiatives. Over the past few years, AFRINIC has helped organizations in 32 African countries achieve 377 deployment milestones, thanks to its innovative and effective programs. In this article, we want to highlight the five countries that have benefited the most from AFRINIC's support and the milestones they were able to achieve.
